2013-2014 Magnet Acceptance Letters Have Been Mailed & Are Viewable Online

Many thanks to Anonymous for letting me know yesterday that although there was no new link online at the eChoices web site, the status selection link had been updated to show the applicant's status for next year.

This morning, I did have an email from LAUSD that stated letters had been mailed and can be viewed online. The hard copy may have more information, but if you haven't received it yet, you can at least check your child's status if you applied online. Here's how:
  • Go to the the eChoices web site and click on the "Go Green" icon on the right side of the page.
  • Click on "View Submitted Application and Selection Status."
  • Complete the form and click "Submit." The confirmation number is on your child's Choices application. It is also at the top of emails you may have received from LAUSD regarding your child's magnet application.

Good luck!

Year-round Magnet Applications?

The LA Times is reporting that LAUSD is exploring year-round applications for magnet schools.

The Times report states that many magnet schools have unfilled slots, but I know that's not the case at my son's school, and I believe it's not the case at the magnet schools in our area. Therefore, I think that the year-round application program will only be relevant to magnet programs that are generally unpopular and not anyone's first choice.

However, the year-round application process could greatly benefit someone seeking to change schools mid-year. I'll keep you updated as more information becomes available.

LAUSD Magnet Acceptance Letters to be sent March 29, 2013

Update 4/1/2013: Since acceptance letters are still not available online, it appears that they are only being made available by hard copy. Hopefully they will arrive in today's mail!

A friend who works for LAUSD told me that notification letters for the 2013-2014 school year will be sent on Friday, March 29, 2013. These letters include Acceptance, Wait List, and Late List notifications.

If you applied online, a copy of your letter should be available in your Online Application account here. A hard copy should also be mailed to your home.

Good luck!

2013-2014 Eligibility/Ineligibility Letters Now Available

I just received an email from LAUSD informing me that my child's Gifted/Highly Gifted Eligibility/Ineligibility Letter is available online at the eChoices web site.

If you want to dispute LAUSD's determination of your child's eligibility, you should call Student Integration Services at (213) 241-4177 as soon as possible.

Notification of whether your child has been accepted into a Magnet program should arrive sometime in March.

Good luck!
